He He Fish at Jurong West: Steamed Farm-to-Table Fish Sets from $6.50

At 504 Food Place in Jurong West, a humble kopitiam stall is drawing queues of 8 or more people daily, and for good reason. He He Fish serves steamed farm-to-table red tilapia and seabass sets from just SGD 6.50, and it has become one of West Singapore's best-value meals barely a month after opening. The stall is run by Jia Chen, a Malaysian PR who previously ran an Ipoh yee mian stall in Ang Mo Kio before relocating to the west-side residential belt.

Fresh from Johor, Daily

Owner Jia Chen sources his fish daily from a friend's fish farm in Johor Bahru. Once the fish arrives, his staff wastes no time processing it, ensuring the freshness that underpins the stall's reputation. The fish farm supply chain is the same one that Jia Chen built relationships with during his Ang Mo Kio years, and the daily Johor-run means the fish hits the kopitiam counter within hours of being harvested. This is the kind of farm-to-table sourcing that restaurants charge SGD 30 a plate for, and He He Fish is doing it at SGD 6.50.

Three Styles, One Steal of a Deal

The stall serves two types of steamed fish (red tilapia and seabass) in three styles, along with boiled prawns and minced meat sets. The pricing is the headline draw, and the quality of the fish makes the price genuinely surprising on the first visit.

  • HK Style Steamed Red Tilapia Fish Set (SGD 6.50): A whole steamed fish with rice and steamed lady's finger. The fish is supremely delicate and meltingly soft, almost like the tenderloin of a fish. Paired with aromatic fried garlic bits and a flavourful soy-based gravy, every spoonful over plain rice is genuinely excellent. At this price, it is possibly the best-value protein meal in Jurong West.
  • Steamed Seabass with Assam Sauce Set (SGD 7.80): The fish is bathed in a tangy, spicy assam sauce that pairs perfectly with steamed rice. The assam gravy is robust yet light, with a great balance of spices to mellow down the assam's tartness. Seabass is notoriously known for its sandy flavour, but the freshness here means the flesh is sweet with no sandy taste.
  • Soy Bean Sauce Steamed Fish Set (SGD 7.80): A lighter, umami-forward preparation. The soy bean sauce is house-made, not bottled, and it brings a deeper savouriness than the HK-style soy gravy.
  • Prawn with Chinese Herbs Set (SGD 8.80): Five whole prawns drenched in a herbal gravy with red dates, wolfberries and other herbs, sourced directly from the same Johor fish farm. The flesh is firm and sweet, and the herbal gravy is not overly bitter.

Is It Worth the Journey?

14 MRT stations and 2 bus stops, that is what one food writer travelled to reach He He Fish. The verdict: absolutely worth it. The writer noted that if he lived in Jurong West, he would likely brave the long queues and enjoy the steamed fish several times a week. The journey from town is real, but the SGD 6.50 price point for a whole steamed fish meal complete with rice and vegetables is the kind of value that makes the trip defensible.

Why He He Fish Matters for West-Side Residents

For West-side residents, this is practically a gift. The stall opened in late 2025 and has been drawing steady queues since the food media picked it up in January 2026. The SGD 6.50 price point for a whole steamed fish is unusual in Singapore's hawker scene, where fish dishes typically start at SGD 9 to SGD 12, and the freshness of the Johor-sourced fish is the reason Jia Chen can hold the price down. For everyone else outside the west, it is a destination meal at hawker prices, and the 14-MRT-station journey is a real test of how much you value a SGD 6.50 steamed fish.

If you are planning a visit, come before 11:30am or after 2pm to skip the longest queues, the lunch peak between 12pm and 1:30pm regularly draws 8 to 10 people in line. The stall is in a kopitiam setting, so seating is shared with other stalls and tables go fast during the lunch rush. Cash and PayNow are both accepted, and the stall runs out of the HK Style Steamed Red Tilapia by 8pm on most days, so come early if that is the order you want.
