Three Jurong Lake Gardens spots closed this July
NParks is running three concurrent closures at Jurong Lake Gardens this July, and if you are planning a weekend trip out West with kids or a dog, at least one facility on your usual route is likely off-limits. The Smaller Dog Run at Lakeside Garden is closed from 13 to 27 July, Monkey Play at the Forest Ramble playgarden is shut until 20 July, and the Water Wall Court at the Chinese Garden is closed until 17 July. All three are standard maintenance and works closures, not permanent shutdowns, but they land in the middle of the school holiday window and they affect the three spots families actually travel to JLG for.
The closures are listed on the official NParks Jurong Lake Gardens homepage as a notice banner, and the dates are firm. If you were planning to bring a dog to run off-leash, or you have children who specifically want the Monkey Play station, the next two weekends require a workaround. The good news is that most of the gardens remain open, including the Lakeside Garden boardwalks, the Grasslands, and the larger part of the Forest Ramble playgarden.
Smaller Dog Run at Lakeside Garden
The Smaller Dog Run sits inside Lakeside Garden and is the enclosed off-leash area designed for smaller breeds. It is closed for works from 13 to 27 July, which covers two full weekends. If you usually bring a small dog here, the Larger Dog Run (for bigger breeds) typically remains open during this period, but owners of small dogs who rely on the separate enclosure will need to wait until 28 July for the Smaller Dog Run to reopen. NParks has not published specific works details beyond the closure window, but the two-week timeframe is consistent with surface and fencing refresh work.
Jurong Lake Gardens is one of the few large public spaces in the West with a dedicated dog run, so this closure is worth knowing about before you load the dog into the car. The nearest alternative off-leash spots are at East Coast Park and Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park, neither of which is convenient from the Jurong side of the island.
Monkey Play at Forest Ramble
Monkey Play is one of the 13 adventure stations inside Forest Ramble, the 2.3-hectare nature playgarden that is the main draw for families with children at JLG. It is closed for works until 20 July, which means the first three weekends of the month are affected. Forest Ramble itself remains open, and the other 12 stations (including Heron Play, Frog Play, Snake Play and the Merry Go Round) are all operational. If your child has a favourite that happens to be Monkey Play, you can still visit Forest Ramble and use the rest of the playgarden, but plan around the one closed station.
Forest Ramble is designed around the movements of animals found in a freshwater swamp forest, so each station mimics a different creature. Monkey Play is the climbing and swinging station, and it is one of the busier ones because it suits a wide age range. The closure is short, but it lands squarely in the school holiday period, so it is worth flagging before you make the trip.
Water Wall Court at Chinese Garden
The Water Wall Court is the water feature pavilion on the Chinese Garden side of Jurong Lake Gardens, and it is closed for maintenance until 17 July. This is the spot where water cascades down a vertical wall into a reflective pool, with a central pavilion that frames views across Jurong Lake. At night the water wall is lit in gold, which is why it has become one of the more photographed corners of the gardens. The closure runs through the first two-plus weeks of July, so if you were planning an evening walk to see the illuminated water wall, push that visit to after 17 July.
The rest of the Chinese Garden remains open during this period, including the Twin Pagoda, the Bonsai Garden and the Bamboo Grove and Waterfall. The Water Wall Court is a relatively contained site, so the closure does not disrupt through-routes across the gardens, but it does remove one of the shaded resting points on a hot day.
What stays open and how to plan around it
The closures are localised. Lakeside Garden and Chinese Garden both remain fully accessible, as does the Japanese Garden. The Lakeside Garden boardwalks, the Grasslands, Rasau Walk, the Floating Wetlands and the ActiveSG Park are all unaffected. The Garden Cruiser shuttle continues to run on its normal schedule. If you are visiting with children, Forest Ramble is still the main draw, just with one station down. If you are visiting with a dog, the Smaller Dog Run closure is the one that actually changes your plan, and you may want to delay the visit to late July.
Jurong Lake Gardens is free to enter and open 24 hours, though the playgarden and dog run have their own operating hours. The gardens sit on Yuan Ching Road, with the Lakeside Garden side closest to Lakeside MRT (EW26) and the Chinese Garden side closest to Chinese Garden MRT (EW25). Both stations are within a 10-minute walk of the respective entrances.
