Truffle wagyu beef bowl was nice, truffle sauce was good (I can be quite picky) Not worth to get set: cold tea so so, standard hot tea, salad not fresh, terrible cheesecake that was too sweet (took one mouth and discard)

I was quite excited to try Gyushi at Star Vista after hearing about their signature Wagyu Beef Don. The presentation looked appetizing, with neatly layered slices of beef on rice and a perfectly cooked onsen egg on top. However, the taste unfortunately fell short of expectations. The wagyu beef, while tender, was surprisingly bland and lacked the rich umami flavour you’d normally expect from wagyu. Even with the egg mixed in, the overall bowl tasted rather one-dimensional, as though it needed a touch more seasoning or sauce to bring the flavours together. The rice portion was decent and cooked well, but the highlight — the beef — simply didn’t stand out. For the price point, I was hoping for something more memorable and flavorful. Service was friendly and efficient, and the restaurant itself had a clean, casual vibe suitable for a quick meal. Overall, it’s an okay spot if you’re nearby and want a simple wagyu rice bowl, but I wouldn’t go out of my way for it. With a few tweaks to the seasoning and sauce balance, this dish could easily become much more satisfying.

Truffle gyudon was amazing!! aircon was too cold tho and seats are basically just wooden benches so it gets uncomfortable after close to an hour.

Super good quality, delicious and generous gyudon. the egg is just right runny and gives the rice a super creamy texture and the ikura gives a nice bite! add the chilli flakes for a nice little kick! mentaiko is always flavourful and torched well, highly recommend gyushi! 😋

The food is affordable by jap food standard. Regular bowls are at $10.80 and the large ones at $2 more. I had the mentaiko chicken karaage. The mentaiko sauce tasted like sour mayonnaise to me, probably because the tobbiko or ebikko was at the side. Overall it tasted decent though. We also ordered the grilled chicken and also upsized gyudon. They were also off decent standard. Large size portion was very good. The set costs $3.90 more and comes with a small bowl of salad and a drink. They bothered to flambe their chicken and beef with a blow torch for the slightly burnt taste and that's a plus for me. Next time I'll probably try the spicy mentaiko wagyu beef bowl. Worth a visit if you're near Star Vista! Update: Finally got to try their roast beef bowl, it's always out of stock when I come but last Friday I got to try it. The beef is thinly sliced and cooked just right. The sauces and mustard were delicious. Highly recommend this and again it is good value for money. 👍👍👍
