28/10/2025.. I come here to take dinner around 7.30-7.45 pm. I go to counter to ordering. I stand there like a stick. No one serve me. All just busy do work. NO ONE tell me to wait a minute or else. I just look the staff do work. They realize I stand at ordering counter but no one serve me. They just look at me and just go away. So disappointed. Like they hope me to understand what they do.. I go to K**.. 👎🏽👎🏽👎🏽👎🏽👎🏽🙅🙅🙅🙅🙅

This is the west mall outlet worst place to go & never again will I visit any of encik tan outlets . Got scammed big time , picture shows a decent piece of fish, for the fried fish set but what I got was a pathetic teeny weeny piece of fish tail covered with 4 inches of thick partially cooked batter , almost nothing but eating flour . Approached the staff in a mask at the counter and was given a cold response saying “ it is like that all along “ nothing can be done . 😤😱😭 I don’t know weather to laugh , faint or cry at that very moment . I walked away choking w anger - never again will I come to any of your outlet to be scammed again till the day I die.

I walked into Encik Tan for a simple lunch today, placing my usual order. But the quick meal turned unexpectedly heart-warming as I observed how 75-year-old frontline staff, Mdm Lau (刘), cared for every customer who walked in. The eatery sits right by the mall entrance. An elderly couple arrived — one on a mobility scooter — uncertain whether to sit outdoors due to parking needs. Sensing their hesitation, Mdm Lau stepped forward gently, offering them an indoor table that would soon be available. Next came a family of three seniors. There was an empty table by the glass wall, but the elderly mum refused it, not wanting to be “on display for passersby” (不要给人家看). Without missing a beat, Mdm Lau joined their conversation, chatting warmly and persuading her with patience. While the husband and son went to order food, she stayed with the mum, keeping her company. Then, from afar, she spotted a mynah swooping down on a table where someone had carelessly left food behind. She hurried out — slightly bent at the waist — to shoo the bird away and clear the table. Before heading back in, she noticed a young man sitting at the next outdoor table with an untouched plate of food that didn’t seem to be his. She paused to warn him about the birds. When she came back in, I couldn’t resist approaching her. “Auntie,你很好叻,” I told her. She looked surprised. “为什么?” And that started a lovely little conversation. Her grandchildren are now grown and no longer need babysitting, so working keeps her active and engaged. She said she hopes to work for as long as she can. Before we parted, we wished each other a good day. As I reached for my empty cup to clear my table, her quick hands darted forward — “It’s ok, I will do it. 这个是我要做的,” she said with a smile. Thank you, Mdm Lau, for taking care of the community with such love. ❤️

As a retiree with a budget in mind. I frequently patronize West Mall's Encik Tan for its good food. I personally prefer the west Mall's outlet than any other outlets. I guess the chef of this outlet cooks better. I die die will eat their chicken cutlet Curry rice ($5) with $1 coffee. The chicken cutlet is crispy and the vegetable is cooked till very soft and the egg is nice. Let's give the chef a thumb up. The $1 Coffee is value for money as compared to the next door Yakun coffee. I nearly forgot to mention their nice Laksa. One of the best in Singapore. The laksa gravy is solid. The shop is clean. After checking out the company, I found Encik Tan is under Fei Siong Group and surprised to find the EAT selling the same food as Encik Tan is also under the Fei Siong Group. My family has tried both outlets many times, we found Encik Tan outlet's ingredient is much better than EAT. I really don't understand their strategies.
