Jurong Lake Gardens lights up for Mid-Autumn from 19 to 27 September 2026. NParks runs Lights by the Lake again, and this year the lanterns follow The Legend of the White Snake. Admission is free. The lanterns stay on until 4 October, 6.30pm to 10.30pm daily, so you still have a week after the main programme if you only want the walk.
Mid-Autumn falls on 25 September this year. Chinatown is not hanging the usual giant street lanterns along Eu Tong Sen, so the west-side garden is doing more of the heavy lifting for a proper night out. If you live near Lakeside or Chinese Garden MRT, this is the one in walking distance. If you don't, the East-West Line still drops you at the gate.
Five White Snake scenes on Lakeside Field
The main trail sits on Lakeside Field, the northern lawn near Clusia Cove. NParks set five scenes in order. Bai Suzhen leaves the mountains. She meets Xu Xian on Broken Bridge. They run a medicine shop. Realgar wine on Dragon Boat Festival forces her back into snake form. The fight at Jinshan Temple ends badly.
A sixth scene sits at Cloud Pagoda in Chinese Garden. NParks rewrote the ending. Bai Suzhen, Xu Xian, Xiao Qing, and Fa Hai stand together. Official copy calls it a reunion in forgiveness. You can skip the folklore lecture and still read the story in the lanterns if you walk the field first, then the pagoda.
Chinese Garden also has Chang'e over the Cleansing Biotope Ponds, a Jade Rabbit cluster, and extra sets at the garden gate and White Rainbow Bridge. Japanese Garden takes Princess Kaguya at the Floral Garden and koi lanterns on Resthouse Pond. That split is useful. Families who only have an hour can do Lakeside Field. People who want the full circuit should start at Lakeside, cross to Chinese Garden for the pagoda show, then finish at the Sunken Garden.
Cloud Pagoda every 30 minutes, Sunken Garden after 7.30pm
The Cloud Pagoda show, titled A Love That Endures Time, runs 19 to 27 September from 7.30pm to 10pm. Shows start every 30 minutes. Last one is 10pm. It is projection, music, and lantern light on the pagoda, not a stage play. On 21 September the pagoda goes yellow and purple for World Alzheimer's Day. If you only pick one night for the show, that is the date with a reason beyond the usual Mid-Autumn crowd.
The Sunken Garden in Japanese Garden gets a wash of coloured light plus lotus lanterns, 7.30pm to 10.30pm, same 19 to 27 September window. It is quieter than Lakeside Field. Good for photos if you do not want to stand in the main trail queue. The lantern displays themselves keep running to 4 October after the shows stop, so a weekday in the last week of September or the first days of October is the less packed option.
Rockestra, food market, and what actually needs a booking
Opening night, 19 September, NParks Concert Series in the Park: Rockestra takes Ficus Lawn from 6.30pm. Line-up listed by Little Day Out: Music and Drama Company, Shili and Adi, Shirlyn and The UnXpected, and SuperSonic. Mandopop and English hits. Free. MDC is giving away 100 picnic baskets via POWER98 and 883Jia Instagram, entries closed 6 September.
The food market on Lakeside Field runs 19 to 27 September, 6.30pm to 11pm. NParks lists BBQ, Thai food, pasta, kebabs, Ramly burgers, taiyaki, sweet potato balls, and Thai desserts. That is festival stall food, not a hawker centre. Eat before 9pm if you hate queues. Permanent options still sit in the gardens: Starbucks and Fusion Spoon at Lakeside, Canopy, Eden, and BingXue at Chinese Garden, Ice Cream Man and Friends at Japanese Garden.
A few programmes cap numbers. Mediacorp Lantern Trail on 20 September is 250 slots, register at mediacorplanterntrail.sg from 7 September. Edible Garden tours on 19, 20, 26, and 27 September need a sign-up on the Jurong Lake Gardens tours page. LED lion dance is 20 and 27 September, 7.45pm and 8.45pm, Grand Arch. Lantern riddles run 21 to 25 September, 7pm to 9pm at Wave Plaza. National Gallery's Roving Art Studio is the 19 to 20 and 26 to 27 September weekends at Wave Plaza. Singapore Chinese Orchestra plays Ficus Lawn on 26 September, 6.30pm to 7.30pm, including a new work by Germaine Goh.
The garden is smoke-free. No candle lanterns, no sparklers. NParks wants you on the MRT, not in the car park. Cyclists should dismount in the crowds. That last point is not optional once the lawn fills up.
