Glowing Oceans opens at Science Centre Singapore on 3 November 2026. After Spookology wraps on 1 November, the same Jurong East building switches from Fear Labs to a dark room of living dinoflagellates. You put on booties and walk into shallow water. The plankton flash blue around your feet.
The official page calls it Asia's first full-scale living bioluminescence exhibition. Wild blooms do show up on Singapore shores some nights. City light usually washes them out before anyone notices. Science Centre built a dark-adapted gallery so the glow is actually visible. Popular Biology, Inc. from the United States is the partner.
The lagoon is the bit people will talk about. Staff issue booties at the door. No swimming, sitting, or lying in the water. Closed-toe flat shoes. Roll your trousers. Wash your hands with soap before you go in. Skip lotion and sunscreen on hands and arms that morning, and take off bracelets and anklets so they do not contaminate the tanks.
What else is in the dark
Touch tables let you swirl the water with your hands and watch the organisms fire. Galaxy tables do a similar trick with fingertips. Bubble pods are for looking closer. Dimitri's Desk is a field-lab set with instruments, notes, and a quiz machine, plus glass specimens that carry holographic deep-sea animals. Darwin's Cove runs an animated version of Darwin seeing dinoflagellates from the Beagle.
The species on show are non-toxic. The centre is careful to say they are not the red-tide kind. Flash photography is banned. The room is dark and enclosed. If that bothers you, skip it. Children under 4 are not allowed. Anyone under 12 needs an adult. Strollers, wagons, tripods, luggage, and umbrellas stay outside. Pay lockers sit near the main entrance and the Annexe. No food or drink in the gallery.
Tickets and how long it takes
Plan 45 to 60 minutes inside, and arrive 15 minutes before a timed session. Hours follow the centre. Tuesday to Sunday, 10am to 5pm, last entry 4.15pm. Closed Monday except public holidays and gazetted school holidays. Jurong East MRT, then the Westgate walk. The old Jurong East Science Centre stays open until the new building near Chinese Garden MRT, aimed at end-2027.
Glowing Oceans plus Science Centre admission, Singaporean and PR peak, is $12 adult and $10 child or senior. Off-peak is $7 for everyone in those groups. Standard is $18 adult or senior and $14 child. The Super Glow Bundle stacks ONE Ocean on top. ONE Ocean, the Tara Ocean Foundation show, is a different gallery in the same building. It runs until 3 January 2027. Do not treat it as the lagoon. Bundle prices for Singaporean and PR peak are $23 adult and $18 child or senior. Off-peak $20 and $15. Standard $30 and $24. Buy on tickets.science.edu.sg.
From Jurong East MRT the walk is through Westgate, then across the road to 15 Science Centre Road. Paid parking sits on site. A small towel in the bag is the one extra worth packing. The lagoon wets more than people expect. Spookology's last day is 1 November. The centre is closed Monday 2 November unless that Monday is a public or school holiday, so 3 November is a clean switch, not an overlap.
